For the Little Things

For teaching me how to bake the perfect cherry pie from scratch…

For showing me how to pump the brakes for a smooth stop while driving and reminding me that just because I see brake lights on the highway doesn’t mean I should slam on my own…

For inspiring me to love Celtic music and culture, even though our heritage is most likely Welsh…

For informing me of the difference between a winter and a summer person and what colors look best with each skin tone…

For limiting our TV and computer time so that we would learn to appreciate books, the great outdoors, and our own imaginations…

For making us budget our money, even when it meant just putting a dime in each envelope, so that we would know how to handle our finances as adults…

For requiring us to read out loud, to speak with proper grammar, and not to use “bad” words like “butt” and “stupid”…

For teaching us those feminine skills like cooking, sewing, and baking, even though they seemed outdated to the rest of the world…

For having us practice typing until we reached 100 wpm, even though we hated it…

For expecting us to exhibit proper behavior around adults even as young children, and for never believing we were too young to have manners…

For schooling us at home so that we would know how to think for ourselves and learn from books…

For choosing to continue to have children by God’s design, even when people scoffed at you and said you already had too many…

For dedicating 25+ years of your life to raising your offspring, doing the absolute best job you could with no outside help or stunning example to follow…

For these things, I am grateful.
